CHARTWELL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Our Primary School Curriculum

At Chartwell Primary School, we are dedicated to providing our students with a high-quality education that prepares them for success in the modern world. Our curriculum is structured in line with the UK educational system and is well adapted and flexible to suit the international dimension of our school. All subjects are taught in English, providing our students with valuable language skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

We deliver the Cambridge Primary Curriculum, which is designed for students aged 5-11 and provides a framework to develop English, Mathematics, and Science skills, knowledge, and understanding in younger learners. The curriculum is designed to support curriculum development and classroom teaching and learning, and enables teachers to assess children’s learning as they progress. Two optional assessments, the Cambridge Primary Progression Tests and Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, provide further insight into students’ progress and help identify areas for improvement.

The curriculum frameworks for English also include an English as a second language module, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed. We believe that the right balance between the search for meaning and understanding, and the acquisition of social, emotional, and behavioral skills is crucial for our students’ development. Therefore, the subject allocation is adjusted depending on the Class Teacher’s and/or Academic Programme Coordinator’s appraisal of the needs of the class.

At Chartwell Primary School, we are committed to providing our students with a challenging and engaging education that prepares them for success in the modern world.

Primary Curriculum Framework

The Cambridge Primary Curriculum is structured around subject-specific frameworks, including English, English as a Second Language, Mathematics, and Science. These frameworks provide a clear teaching structure that enables our teachers to deliver high-quality education and monitor our students’ progress.

At Chartwell Primary, we use integrated assessments to track our learners’ progress and identify areas for improvement. By using the Cambridge Primary Curriculum and assessments, we can ensure that our students are receiving a high-quality education that prepares them for success in the modern world.

English as a second language

At Chartwell Primary, we understand the importance of developing our students’ English language skills, which is why we offer a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum. Developed in conjunction with Cambridge English Language Assessment, our ESL curriculum is based on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is used worldwide to map learners’ progress in English.

Our ESL curriculum is designed to develop our students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English, providing them with the language skills they need to succeed in a globalized world. By using the CEFR to measure progress, we can ensure that our students are making measurable progress in their language skills and are prepared to communicate effectively in English.

Mathematics

At Chartwell Primary, our Mathematics curriculum framework is designed to develop our students’ understanding of key mathematical concepts and skills. The framework explores five content areas: number, geometry, measure, handling data, and problem solving, providing a comprehensive approach to the subject.

Our Mathematics curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions, and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. Through hands-on learning experiences, our students develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in their academic and professional careers.

Science Curriculum Overview:

Our curriculum framework covers scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry, and physics, along with environmental awareness and history of science. Scientific enquiry is a key focus, teaching skills to explore ideas, evaluate evidence, plan investigations, and analyze data. Our goal is to foster curiosity and prepare students to become informed and engaged citizens.
